I like Indian food. I'm no expert on it by any stretch of the imagination, but I know what I like and I like Indian food. And I like Tulsi.
Before I found Tulsi, little did I know that when I got that craving for authentic Indian cuisine, all I needed to do was head for Kittery, Maine!
And inside this beautifully decorated inside, very plain outside, slightly hard to find, small little northern Indian restaurant, I found very good Indian dishes.
The menu contains familiar items such as Tandoori chicken and Tandoori salmon, and a wide variety of Naan, loads of fabulous vegetarian dishes (my husband is a big fan of the Yellow Dal, a combo of two lentils cooked over a slow fire and mildy spiced with cumin, ginger, garlic and tomato).
But if you're feeling adventurous, there's always smokin' hot dishes like Pork Vindaloo, a fiery pork curry made with chilies, ginger and spices and finished with malt vinegar.
Couple a great menu with excellent wine choices, fine beers and Indian beverages, and you've got yourself a date night extrodinaire!
PLEASE NOTE: It is June 2011 as I write -- Tulsi is moving to bigger, better quarters within the next four months or so and will no longer be at 2 Government Street. Check their site at www.tulsiindianrestaurant.com.
